How can we get in shape and keep fit for the evangelizing mission of Jesus Christ and the Church? We need to exercise or "work-out" on a regular basis! Come here to find occasional new individual, small group, large group or parish calisthenics to stretch our capacity to reach out to others with the Good News of Jesus in every life.

    Workout #2:
    Who is Jesus for YOU?

Individual Prayer and Activity (10-15 min)

Many of the Scriptural titles used to describe Jesus are listed below:

    • These ancient names can be used as prayers, in and of themselves. Several have been used for centuries as part of the "O-Antiphons" before Christmas.
    • Some people like to repeat just one or two titles over and over again, at quiet moments throughout the day.
    • Some people alternate the word "Jesus" with each title used (ex. Jesus, Savior; Jesus, Lord; etc.)
    • Circle the 3 to 6 titles that you would find most meaningful as you pray, study, or speak to others about Jesus Christ. If a favorite title of Jesus is not listed, put it in the empty bottom box.
    • Pause for a few moments and step back in time. Imagine that Jesus is passing by you on the dusty road to Jerusalem. Call out to him using the title that suits you right now. Spend as much or as little time on that one name as you need. How does Jesus respond? What happens next?

Sharing in small groups (3 or 4 people - 20 mins.)

    1. Which two or three of these Scriptural titles of Jesus encourage you the most? Why did you choose each one?
    2. Which of these titles of Jesus are the most foreign to the way you envision him?
    3. How do your favorite titles of Jesus color what you think it means to be a Catholic disciple of Christ?
    4. What titles do you and other members of your group have in common? What does that mean to you?
    5. Think of three people from your everyday life. What do think their favorite titles for Jesus might be?
    6. Why is it important to understand people's favorite titles for Jesus? How does this knowledge help us share faith with them or help us evangelize them?

    People - Homework Challenge

After this session, conduct an informal survey of people from your every day life. Ask them what names of Jesus they might choose or discard from the list.

(You might schedule a time right now to come together again in order to share the results of this informal survey.)
