Institute for Lay Ecclesial Ministry - Requirements

For ILEM-Traditional and ILEM-Extended

• Be a practicing Catholic in Full Communion with the Catholic Church
• Be a lay leader in the church
• Be 21+ years old
• Have a BA or higher degree (unless the individual holds a position in a parish/Catholic institution in the Diocese of Trenton)
• Demonstrate leadership in the church
• Desire formation for ministry

For ILEM-Bridge

• MA (or MA candidate) in Theology or a related field
• Significant leadership in a parish/Catholic institution in the Diocese of Trenton
• Five consecutive years in ministry (at least three of those in the Diocese of Trenton)
• Significant pastoral skills training
• Significant spiritual formation

All Applicants Submit:

• an application
• reference forms
• NJ State Police Clearance Letter or go through fingerprint process

Those applicants who appear to be viable candidates:

• interview
• are psychologically evaluated by licensed professionals
• transcripts
