WELCOME THE WORD

Welcome the Word: God Would Like a Word with YOU! is the Diocesan initiative responding to the current 2008 October Synod of Bishops on the Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church. The initiative calls Catholics to the life giving Word of God for our faith and ever deepening personal relationship with the Lord Jesus

. Pope Benedict XVI preached at the Mass opening the Synod:

… It is indispensable that the Church [remembering we are the Church] know and live that which she proclaims so that her preaching is credible, despite the weaknesses and poverty of the human beings. Citing St. Jerome, he added: Whoever does not know the Scriptures does not know the power of God nor his wisdom.

The Holy Father's preaching and guidance needs to take root in each of our lives for us to become mature Catholics and witnesses. The Welcome the Word initiative encourages and nourishes this direction with helpful workshops and resources such as the ones identified in this newsletter.
